White Knuckle Clutch

Knees meet chin

Hands meet edge

Gravity meet me

Shoulders forward itching closer to the water

Flowing liquid hitting the edge below my feet

My heels off the surface, my feet a foot apart

Balancing on the edge, staring with a twisted stomach

And wide eyes that never shut, stuck in a moment

No breath, just water below, just leaning to launch

Body tilted forward, inner tilted back, terrified of the terrific waters

The only thing holding me back: my white knuckle clutch

Now I won’t fall now, I stay in the position, ready to fall, just not into this water

Thank you for the opportunity, thank you water

New tide will come in and it will be just right.

Move on, for I will stay in this position, with my memory

I have done and know how to do

Ready for freshwater with: my white knuckle clutch
